Festschrift in Honour of the late Professor Beverley Noakes

Call for contributions [February 2023]

This special issue is to honour the life and career of Associate Professor Beverley Noakes (See Bibliography below). Born in Jamaica, Beverley devoted much of her academic research to the study of francophone literature. She introduced the first courses in francophone Caribbean literature to the newly independent University of the West Indies in the late 1960s, a feat she repeated when she took up a position at the University of Western Australia in 1970 until her retirement in 2002. Beverley also taught courses in francophone African literature which was equally innovative at the time.

This special edition of Essays in French Literature and Culture will invite submissions from scholars in all aspects of francophone studies, attesting particularly to the way in which the field has continued to flourish from Beverley’s pioneering beginnings.
